Amazeballs…

Been a bit slack on the old Blog front recently, mainly because of the amazing run of swell we have been lucky enough to have been taking full advantage of! All however isn't totally stoked in the Surf world, obviously most of our world class product is sourced from outside the UK and it can't have escaped anyones notice that the exchange rates have gone tits up. All our stock is held at pre-Brexit prices, we are trying to hold off ordering anything from abroad until hopefully the rates improve. Fingers etc crossed.

Single tab side bites…

True Ames single tab side bites

Both up front, both back, on up one down… possibilities are almost endless. Allows for ultimate positioning and fine tuning. I myself have been trying one in back for looser backhand trimming, seems to work great especially on longer boards. Try them in Quads, Thrusters or just get your shaper to use single plugs… True Ames usual quality. http://www.finshack.com/products/single-tab-side-bites-2-6-smoke

Spring no sprung…

Seems one day of Spring is then replaced by a week of Winter… last April was amazing with three weeks of sun and swell, fingers crossed for a repeat…

Finshack Hold All…

These Hold All's are made for us in the USA by Steele Bag Company, they are beyond rugged and come in two cavernous sizes, ideally suited to hauling stuff to the beach or building site. They have Finshack red vinyl on the bases for extra rigidity and will 'stand' on their own which makes it easy to fill with your chosen cargo.

Aloha…

Show your brother (or Sister) some love this year, spread the Aloha…

Winter of discontent…

Alas this Autumn/Winter has been far from classic, the odd day for sure, but mostly roaring gales and messed up swell. Getting a bit frustrating. Might take up Yoga.

In the meantime you can always follow our wandering consciousness on various social media channels… have a look, say 'hi' and be the first to get the run on any deals…

Winter Sale…

Finshack sale starts New Years Day…

Wind and yet more wind…

Plenty of swell but more relentless wind, been getting pretty frustrating for the last month or so, hang in there can't last forever can it? Been a pretty lack lustre year really, fingers crossed for 2016.

Noel…

Sourced some heavy duty enamel mugs which have been laser etched with the Finshack logo, pretty damned pretty, no? While we were at it we got the new delivery of Klean Canteen etched too. Jenny at Cut by Beam is a modern day marvel with a CO2 laser, hard to resist not plastering logos on everything I own, restraint is key, retail is detail! Perfect gift for the closet camper in your life…

Autumn…

Has to be the best time of the year for some serious slide time, we have already had a few pulses of Hurricane swell coupled with some sun and warm water, have to say though this Summer has been a bit lack lustre on the wave front as well as the sunshine, seems we have been a little cheated as we head into the cold dark months, hopefully more swell will hit our coasts soon to make up for it…

Captain Fin Company

Radical new rudders from the Captain Fin crew, check out the videos in some of the fin descriptions for shits and giggles…

Skip Frye North Shore Fins…

Just received a shipment of Skips finest, I'll be photographing them this week so they should be 'live' very soon, full range of sides and mains for you connoisseurs of fine finnage. Will have the new range of Nine Plus 'Reds' in too, they look amazing in sanded finish… maybe order up some Autumn swell and celebrate with a fine new rudder…

Summer Bummer…

Another 'Summer' seems to be avoiding us this year, this shot was taken in April! Think we have had one maybe two days like this so far in August, not much in the way of waves either, weather can be a cruel mistress… fingers crossed for either some Sun or Waves, both would be nice…

Wastage…

Had my Klean Kanteen for about 8 years and tried not to use a plastic bottle since, so I guess at 2 or 3 bottles a week that's over a 1000 bottles that haven't been introduced into the environment. I think if I worked away from home that figure could easily be 3 times that. Makes you think. They really are a great product and hard wearing. We may even sell them I don't remember… ;-)

Flatness…

Not so much in the wave department recently, still lots of new product on the way from Nine Plus, The Critical Slide Society and Captain Fin Company, also an exciting bag project from across the pond, exclusive to Finshack. Join up for the newsletter for news about this and other new products. In the meantime here's a picture of the famed Doom Bar in case you were interested.

From the gloom came light…

Bit gloomy today, but some fun shoulder high sets, none too busy either. When I got home I watched this short film from Donald Brink. Terry Martin was a legendary Californian shaper and responsible for some 80,000 surfboards, yes that many. He took Tyler Warren under his wing and taught him all he knew before his death in 2012, a real nice guy. This film pretty much sums up the man… whatever you belief system it's chocked full of sage advice for life and a wee bit of shaping…

Shapers…

There is something ultimately beautiful about owning a handmade surfboard crafted by a leader in their field, you'd be hard pressed to get a pair of Cassius Marcellus Clay's gloves or an Arnold Palmer putter, but you can buy, relatively inexpensively a board shaped by a real hero. You can touch it, feel the compound curves, look at it's innate beauty AND surf it! A rare experience in this world of mass produced ephemera, kind of like Dieter Rams making you alone a Braun P1 radio… stoke!

Leatherman…

Exceptional quality tools from Leatherman, now available…

Waiting…

We are all used to waiting, tide to turn and start pushing in, part of the fun, the anticipation… not so much when you are waiting for that fin you ordered, we ship same day if you order before 2pm and to a UK address will usually take no more than two days, often one. Part of our mantra…

Over…

Seems that amazing April swell spell went out with a bang yesterday, some real bombs… thank you old Neptune. Next week we will be getting some luscious new fins in, some quality new surf related products, should be busy… join the newsletter to be the first to know.

Kooks…

Been an amazing three weeks of weirdly warm weather and swell, thankfully they have finally put up the usual signs up…

Surfari…

More swell, more sun, more walking, more thieves, but worth it…

Fog bound…

As they say, 'if you don't like the weather in Cornwall, wait five minutes'… alas not today, that bank of fog didn't lift… John voted with his feet.

Twin Peaks

Crowds have gone for a while, wind picked up, still a quiet little corner if you look hard enough… where's the log lady?

More boring April pictures…

Been spoilt over the last week or so, taking people a little while to get over the crowds after the empty Winter waves…

Paddle Against The Flow

We got the great new book from Huck Magazine, great quotes from the great and good, creative business…

April…

Sun, swell and Dolphins in the line-up… doesn't get much better. Little sweetener for the locals after the busy Easter weekend. Pretty perfect.

Summer…

1ºc this morning then this, not quite Summer but getting there, Happy Easter!

Eagles…

Cross country surfing, section connecting, speed and glide… whatever your take on Eagles they can be sublime sliding vehicles, I'm engrossed.

10' plus in my book, they have a style and elegance in built, massaging you into a fluid and dare I say graceful style you never knew you had, well, that is what it feels like to me, the outward reality of a 50 year old fat bloke surfing one might be slightly different of course.

Skip Frye is the spiritual father in more ways than one and his Eagles are legendary for good reason. Others have similar takes on the genre and one of the very best is Larry Mabile. This is my second and it's even better than the first… if you want to 'Slide the Glide' as Josh would say then I can recommend no better than Larry, hand shaped in California. To quote the vernacular 'Yew!'…

NQY…

'Epicentre of UK Surf Culture' not my words… a great little wave when it's on though, only the desperate stay for high. Revolver, Nine Plus, Watershed, Jamie the Barber, Jam Jar… a few of the sanctuaries in a sea of s…

Frankie Knuckles 18.1.55 - 31.3.14

SAS Beach Clean - Polzeath

Not exactly the nicest day for picking up other peoples shit but hey, amazing turnout and bags and bags of rubbish removed from Polzeath. So much 'sea string' and sundry plastics that will survive in the marine environment for many many years, try and pick up a bit when you are down the beach this 'Summer'… great work everyone.

Right about now…

It's about to get busy, so in the interests of family harmony, no dropping in kids.

Unexpected surprises…

Couple of feet of empty glassy clear water, didn't expect that. Still blinking cold though, 4ºc when I got there… sun came out later, water was like crystal, slid my brains out… and I was fretting I wouldn't score, North Coast sounded like a zoo, happy days.

Captain Fin Company

Back in 2007 had the idea of starting a small business selling fins, these beauties were instrumental in that thought process, can't believe how far they have come since then. Big thanks to Mason who believed in us and helped us on our way… Never going to sell this one.

Welcome to the new website…

New site finally online, many thanks to Ian for all the hard graft on the back end… been a long time thinking about this, hopefully much easier to find the fin you are after now we have extensive search options, hope you enjoy looking around. Now for a surf…
